Ski area staff were delighted to be told yesterday that The Remarkables ski area in Queenstown will open at 9am on Saturday (July 2) for the 2011 winter season.

Ash cloud remains at "safe level for flying"

Ash Cloud returns to lower SI, flights cancelled

Just two days after we gave the all clear for trans-Tasman flights to resume the ash cloud has reappeared and is currently clipping the lower South Island.

The incoming cloud has a base of 20,000 feet which is the same as last week.

Thousands of travellers face more disruption today after Qantas and its budget subsidiary Jetstar cancelled all flights in and out of New Zealand because of ash from the Chilean volcano.

No international or domestic Qantas or Jetstar flights will operate from New Zealand airports today.
