Hi there Dave I have pegged

Hi there Dave

I have pegged Hamlton to be mainly dry for Friday and that forecast still stands at the present point in time, there is the risk of a shower or two but mainly dry overall. You're right timing is critical and if that low comes in quicker it could result in a different outcome but at present as you can see it's still out in the Tasman at this stage on Friday.

We update our Hamilton page each day so check back again tomorrow to see how things are unfolding :)

Nov 19th

Hi there, Our wedding is on the 19th November in Russell, whats the outlook for November looking like? And when is the earliest time to check for a realistic forecast? Thank you!

Hi there The outlook? Low,

Hi there

The outlook? Low, high, then another low....The cycle continues. Just depends will you get a period of calm in-between all this?

That is quite a while away so I can't say anything with much credibilty right now regarding the 19th. About 7 days out we will start to have an idea then 5 to 4 days out we begin to narrow it down, 2 to 3 days out we start to lock it in provided the pattern is of a favourable nature.

So feel free to come back and ask us closer to the time otherwise hope your wedding goes well! :)

An afternoon of cirrus

Fantastic windy cirrus skies this afternoon, twirled and danced in Auckland skies. They preceded the silver skies Auckland wide. A few forecast fine showers fell SW Auckland.

Was quite a pleasant mild day

Was quite a pleasant mild day in Auckland city. Downpours not arriving until closer to midnight so looks like night number 2 of fireworks (then Mother Nature may produce a few isolated fireworks/thunderstorms in the region overnight - not a huge amount but some about!)

Upper Moutere - 12 Nov

We have an outdoor event on 12 Nov in Upper Moutere. It is looking like rain at this stage, any hope for an afternoon event? Thanks!!!

Hi there Looking a little

Hi there

Looking a little hard to forecast for at this stage due to a low pressure system crossing central NZ next Saturday. Suffice to say there may be rain or showers about however. Currently it may be morning rain with a few heavy falls, easing to showers in the afternoon then clearing evening.

This could well change however, a subtle movement in the low mentioned above could cause a different outcome. Feel free to come back and ask us closer to the time if you would like.

Rays, Rainbows & Rain

A beautiful morning in New Lynn #Auckland with rainbows, Rays & some rain. Your WSW wind forecast is accurate as small drops hit the WSW windows. Magnificent anvils and cumulus too, with lots of blue sky!

La Nina

G'day Thanks for running this most excellent website ! A quick question .. Ive got lots of family heading over from the UK for January this year, I've read a bit about a La Nina weather pattern for this summer in NZ , we'd be wanting to spend lots of time on beaches around the upper north island is La Nina going to rain on my parade ? Cheers Danny

Hi Danny, thanks very much

Hi Danny, thanks very much for the positive feedback! :) La Nina tends to produce a wetter and cloudier summer for northern NZ - but a coulpe things to note. 1) La Nina isn't yet locked in and may not be locked in at all over summer. 2) A wetter summer doesn't mean it rains every day, it just means when it does rain it tends to be heavier, so you may still get plenty of sunny or dry beach days. Hope that helps!

Cheers

sunny day?

Hi there, outdoor birthday party on sunday the 13 of november, is it looking good? :)

Hi there Depends where you

Hi there

Depends where you mean for. There is a low pressure system approaching NZ around then from the Tasman so chances are it could be showery for much of the country. It is 10 days away so I can't tell you anything very accurate right now. Come back and ask in 5 days if possible or keep an eye on our Auckland forecasts if that's where you mean for.

Hope it goes well either way.

Amazing clouds

The amazing clouds, Long string of cirrus, stratus, cumulus have been posing as I saw cobblestones leading to heaven in West Auckland at 5:20pm Merging melting, moving the SW skies are very active near the airport. Little falls of rain not reaching the ground. Hoping for a lovely sunset!

November 2nd 2016

Hi I have plans to run an outdoor activity 8am to midday on the 2nd of November. Chances are not looking good is it?

Hi there The morning is

Hi there

The morning is probably not the best time, some patchy rain will be about then around midday it eases to the odd shower and sunny spells. So from midday onwards there will be dry periods but perhaps the odd shower moving through at times still. It'll be drier then the morning anyway.

Hope that helps :)

Wednesday 2nd Nov

Hi Guys, have you got any idea what time the rain is meant to ease on Wednesday? And when it does is there much fine weather throughout the day? Meant to be pouring concrete and trying to gauge what the day will look like in advance the best i can. Thanks, and keep up the good work!

Can you actually tell me what

Can you actually tell me what time it will stop? Tonight is not really good enough.

Hi there - the thunderstorms

Hi there - the thunderstorms are isolated and every 30 minutes or so the situation changes. For the most part conditions will ease as the sun goes down, so as we head towards 7pm.

Hi is thunder and rain set

Hi is thunder and rain set for he rest of today/evening I'm in south auckland and wondering if it's going to be ok to take kids trick or treating. Many thanks

Hi there, for the most part

Hi there, for the most part the thunderstorms are easing, but we do have a few new ones quickly popping up before sunset, which are likely to fade again fairly fast. The general rule is, if you hear thunder go inside - stay indoors until you can no longer hear it. "If thunder roars, stay in doors". Hard to be specific for any part of Auckland this evening as the situation is changing every 30 minutes or so. Generally it's wetter in the south and west - and thunderstorms/heavy downpours will ease as it gets darker.

Cheers = and good luck!

Saturday 5th Nov

Hi there, I'm hosting an outdoor birthday party on Auckland's North Shore this Saturday (5th) from around midday to late afternoon and was wondering whether there would be any rain or showers around these times? Thanks.

G'day there Yes there may be

G'day there

Yes there may be a few showers about but expect dry spells at times also and perhaps even areas of sun. No solid persistent rain is looking likely, just on and off occasional showers then clearing early evening at this stage.

Keep an eye on our Auckland forecasts for up to date info as we head close to the 5th Nov :)

- WW Team

Thunder In Swanson??

Well don't see that in the forecast but a bit of thunder in the last few minutes in the Waitakere's

Yes isolated showers did look

Yes isolated showers did look possible this afternoon anywhere from Northland through to the Bay Of Plenty however the region of instability obviously took hold in Auckland more substantially then first thought. It may still brew up about the Bay Of Plenty later this afternoon / evening mainly inland. We'll have to see how the rest of the day develops.

Wellington

Hello I often see Wellington as the lowest daily high temperature in the North Island and many times in the whole country. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11738937 For example. Are there statistics on how often Wellington is the lowest daily high or which cities have the lowest daily highs?

Hi there This is something

Sun 30 Oct rain?

Hi, I have read on another weather site that rain on Sunday morning, clearing in the afternoon, but here is says showers more likely in afternoon. I am trying to work out whether to have kids outdoor party games for Sunday afternoon (3ish) so any idea when you think the rain will come (or finish)? Thanks

Hi there The weather for

Hi there

The weather for Auckland (where I presume you are meaning) could see an early clearing shower then it's mainly dry. The afternoon showers if they do happen will be fairly isolated meaning some may remain completely dry for the rest of the day, the afternoon showers are caused due to some instability in the air rather than a front for example. Sorry I can't time it down to the hour but from mid or perhaps late afternoon and early evening those are the times one could see an isolated shower or two.

Hope the party games go well either way! :)

Saturday forecast

Hi there, You guys have been the go to weather forecast website for the past couple of years and are almost always correct! So glad to have a reliable website, hope you guys keep on growing! How early are the early showers looking to be on Saturday in Auckland around central and north-shore? (trying to decide what beach to go to and at what time) Couple of general questions: With regard to southerlies, I've always thought it originates around the antarctic area and makes it's way up to New Zealand, is that correct? With La nina possibly being underway and with regard to the North Island and Auckland, is it looking to be wetter over the January, Feb, March periods? which is usually the peak of summer for us, is that generally the norm for Auckland during a "la nina period'? (Sorry if this get's condensed into one paragraph, don't know why it does that) Thanks! Mario

G'day there Thanks heaps for

G'day there

Thanks heaps for the kind words, we'll keep trying :)

The early showers on Saturday are quite early, 6 or 7am then gone, and that's for everywhere. Forecasting suburb by suburb isn't quite there yet for the most part apart from rare occasions. lol.

In regards to your other questions I've put those to Phil and this is his responce.

re: Southerlies - they can be generated from anywhere - it’s the angle of the isobars. I often refer to the “origins” of the airflow, but of course there is often no ‘starting point” as it all loops together. But the origins of an airflow refer to where is the air coming from before it turns and changes direction. In the case of the southerly this week it wasn’t a ‘true southerly’ as it really only affected NZ - and south of NZ the same airflow turns westerly and comes from south of Aussie. Hope that makes sense!!!

Re; La Nina - we’re some of the way towards La Nina but that doesn’t mean it will be officially declared. But we are experiencing some build up of La Nina which means we have more cloud, more humidity and more rain over northern areas lately. Can’t lock in yet what summer will be like but we do see a trend towards slightly more cloud and downpours this summer in the north. We’ll try to lock in more detals in Nov but at this stage there isn’t a lot to go on re: La NIna.

Hope that helps!
Cheers

Hi there,   Re Labour

Hi there,

Re Labour Weekend forecasts for Hamilton, your forecast paints a very good picture of mostly sunny and settled weather for Saturday and Sunday.  Metservice however has the opposite - cloud and rain symbols with showers all weekend.  Is this because it is still 4 days out from the weekend and the picture is still very uncertain?  Interesting though how the two forecasts are completely different, making it hard to plan for.

That being said, I place more faith in your forecasts as they have consistently proved to be the more accurate.

Sunday 23rd October

Hi there

I am having an outdoor childrens party on Sunday in AUckland (at 3pm). What are the chances of rain ? (and high winds) or is it too early to say

Thanks

Hi thereCurrently we are

Hi there

Currently we are seeing a ridge of high pressure over the upper North Island then, meaning mainly settled with sun and light winds, some high cloud may develop.

Your right though it is a while away so best bet is to keep an eye on our Auckland forecast page and see how conditions are unfolding for Sunday as we get closer to the 23rd.

Thanks for writing in!

Will spring ever arrive?

Hi Guys- am I imagining it, or is this the worst start to spring I can remember in upper North Island?

Im in auckland so expect frequent squally showers this time of year but its been endless days of grey cloud, rain and really cold.....(went to the graden centre in the weekend and they told me not to bother planting anything yet as too cold!?)

Please tell me this isnt a pre-cursor of "summer" :(

Keep up the great work team..

Hi there, thanks for the

Hi there, thanks for the question!  Spring is basically winter slowly fading away and summer gradually coming in, so it's not unsual to have weather that feels more like the wintry end rather than the summer-like end during the month of October. It's been colder these past few days but October will likely be average to above average temperature wise (no frosts in the north). You're right baout the cloud and rain - it's been wetter than average (and cloudier) for many northern areas.  The theme this year is warmer than average - while you may say it's been 'really cold' lately it's actually only dropped to be about average, if not above average still. We're slowly getting used to a warmer than average climate.

Cheers and thanks for the kind words!

Keep Up The Great Work

Keep up the great work weather watch really accurate forecasts way better than the bs on tv1 weather forecast thats always wrong and basically says that it will rain everyday when it's sunny.

I always believe these forecasts over theirs way better than metservice.

cloudy rain sun????

I question WHY do we get vision of pure sun,  as it happens this week like Sat 22nd but both side show cloudy darkness and rain?

How can the one day be so different to both other days?

Oh! I appreciate we live in NZ and weather can be different as shown but WHY the full sun I just don'tget it?

Is it a proxy to entise people to go away, to enlighten their long await of a break!

In my mind this country should lob for an extra long weekend say Spring end of Aug time they have in the UK!

Hi thereThat far out the

Hi there

That far out the forecasts are computer generated and may not be as an accurate picture as the stuff we personally adjust although that side of things is improving every year. If you read the forecasts for those days it does give a transitioning picture, it's not so black and white, rain / sun / rain for example.

But in NZ we can have really contrasting days at times, on Thursday in Canterbury the weather was cloudy with rain or showers for most then on Saturday totally different story, sunny skies! So it can happen.

Another holiday would be good :)
