FIVE DAYS IN A ROW FOR AUCKLAND?

WOW!!!!!! Is this possible? A chance of catching a glimpse of the golden orb for five consecutive days (let alone five minutes)?

cirrus displays

Been some wonderful cirrus displays SE of New Lynn earlier this morning.

Maybe the first cyclone?

Hi guys
Are we going to see the first cyclone forming around New Caledonia this week? The maps seem to suggest it, but looking to track east of NZ. May be good for the surfies though?

Cheers
Dave

We're watching it - certainly

We're watching it - certainly will be a nasty little low but looks like it could be short lived in the tropics.  We're tracking it very closely .  Too many conflicted models on it at the moment though.

Cheers

Friday 23rd November Silverdale Auckland

Wedding in Silverdale this coming Friday. Hoping for a clear afternoon especially between 3-5pm. What are the chances?

At this stage it looks good

At this stage it looks good with just a 10% chance of rain between those times.  All the best

Weather pattern change

Looks like the weather pattern is finally making a change with forecasted high pressure waxing and waning over the next week. Maybe Summer is going to start on time?

I was thinking the same as I

I was thinking the same as I looked at weather models this morning. Is more settled looking this week.

Sunday

HIya

can you tell me what the weather is doing on sunday please?

Looks dry

Temperatures aren't expected to be terribly warm, but comfortable with highs around 20.  No rain is expected.

Hi there. Will it Rain on the 24th?? We have an outing planned for the whole of Saturday. Please say "No rain".

Thank you and Bless!! : )

Thank you and Bless!! : )

Extremely strong NW winds

extremely strong wind gusts from the NW in New Lynn. Surprised no warnings out.:)

Not sure why no warnings are up

Kind of a surprise to us too.  There are certainly some strong gusts about the North Island today.

Had enough of this

Had enough of this weather..bring on winter!

I'm a fan of winter too

Not overly thrilled with hot weather either, so I'm not looking forward to the warm up that is coming.  But you and I have a bit of wait.  It's not even summer yet.  :)

saturday night

Hi there

Looking at tomorrows weather, is it likely to be raining throughout the night? or more likely during the day?

Hi there Rain is more likely

Hi there

Rain is more likely to fall during the day tomorrow, in particular from midday through till evening. Rain will then ease off at some point in the evening. Through the night you can expect cloudy areas with brisk west to southwest winds. There will be dry periods but expect the odd shower at times also.

On Sunday morning showers will pick up again for a time.

Cheers
Aaron

Rain map

I think the latest model shows that the rain might hit Auckland a bit late. Please correct me if I am wrong :)

Rain

Yes it can tend to look that way and sometimes the rainbands can stall a little before approaching. We'll keep an eye on it :)

Saturday 17th

Hi guys,
We know there is rain coming to Auckland tomorrow (Saturday) but what do you think the chances are of it not arriving till after midday? Hopefully!!!
Thanks,
Gerry

Huge updraft

Huge updraft directly over Titirangi, beautiul cloud displays in the west.

Nice, gotta love big

Nice, gotta love big updrafts! Especially in the evening as the sun is going down.

Eclipse

Hi WeatherWatch.
I wonder whether you incorporated into your models the eclipse yesterday? Over most of the upper north island, the sun was 0 to 90% obscured for 2 hours. This must significantly decrease the heat energy into the atmosphere during the morning. Perhaps around 10% less heat for the day radiant upon the atmosphere. Did the weather react?
Thanks
Dave

Hi DavePersonally I'm not

Hi Dave

Personally I'm not sure at all really. There was nothing overally interesting about the weather yesterday. Although there were some heavy showers in parts of Southland and eastern Otago late afternoon, also inland Mid / South Canterbury.

What you are saying does sound correct perhaps although I'm no expect on the effects of an eclipse really. I have seen a few temperature graphs and it looks like the temp did drop a bit in many places while the eclipse took place then shot up again afterwards, beyond that I didn't notice many other affects. It did occur in the morning and I believe things would have recovered fairly quickly once it had passed.

At the time I must confess to being in bed also! I work late so sleep through the morning generally :D

If anyone else did notice certain things happening weather wise when the eclipse happened feel free to put a message up on here and let us know.

Queenstown

Hi, We are going to Queenstown tomorrow for a few days. The weather forecast for Queenstown is a little confusing.

Q'town

Hi there

Queenstown looks dry and mild tomorrow but Saturday looks rainy and Sunday should see skies clear with just a few showers possible. Enjoy your time away!

Thanks

WW

No end to it though has

No end to it though has another 6 or so weeks to catch up to the inclement weather 2004.

Summer

When are the hot days of November coming to Auckland? A little concerned with highs still around 18 degrees :/

I have no idea personally, in

I have no idea personally, in the lap of the weather gods :) Can understand your thoughts though, same happens here in Christchurch with northeasterly breezes when they kick up. It is only 17 degrees here today though and must admit I'm quite liking it :)

At the moment we have typical spring westerly weather, the onshore flow is bound to give coolish temperatures as it comes off the sea. When the westerlies settle perhaps later in December or towards January then maybe noticeably warmer temperatures will arrive for a longer amount of days versus just a day or two here and there.

Cheers
Aaron

Thanks Aaron! I think we are

Thanks Aaron! I think we are just all a little concerned as this is the Summer following the worst on record. Its only 2 weeks away and we have only had 2 days over 20 degrees. Lets hope the last week or so improve hugely. Its felt like a very long October rather then November!

Weekend weather west auckland

Hi whats the weather looking like for the west auckland/north shore area for saturday 17/sunday 18th november?

The forecasts above will

The forecasts above will answer your questions mostly, it is too hard to really get that specific about an area the size you are asking about for a forecast. For a forecast you'll tend to be covering a larger area most of the time.

But to get a bit more specific regarding Saturday and Sunday in general, in addition to the forecasts above for Auckland.

Saturday will be mostly cloudy with northwesterly winds building during the day, expect the odd area of rain and dry spells during the morning and afternoon. Winds will change westerly in the evening with a period of heavier rain for a time which mostly clears at night.

A high on Saturday of 19 degrees.

Sunday will pretty much be exactly as stated above in the forecast, breezy westerly winds with a mix of cloudy and sunny areas. Perhaps the odd brief shower at times, long dry spells during the day too.

A high on Sunday of 18 degrees.

Cheers
Aaron

The Liars (in the herald)

The Liars (in the herald) says westerlies, theyre SW. Big difference.

The majority of the wind

The majority of the wind flags I'm seeing on a real time weather map currenlty are varying between W and WSW.

Auckland airport has been reading W for the past two hours then mostly WSW from 7am through to midday.

WSW seems to be an accurate portrail of wind direction in Auckland today.

Cheers
Aaron

hail

Will there be any more hail this evening in South Auckland?

Hail is not likely anymore

Hail is not likely anymore for the rest of today in South Auckland, the storms have cleared away from the Auckland area mostly now.

Storms / heavy downpours are now in parts of the Waikato and east of there spreading onto Coromandel.

Cheers
Aaron

Accurate forecast again!

New Lynn has been dry all day, but your forecast for hail & thunder has been accurate for other parts of Auckland. Fantastic black clouds covering Auckland City. Wind has increased in New Lynn and all West Auckland has blue sky and small cumulus floating by.

Thanks for your comments,

Thanks for your comments, they are much appreciated by the team :)

Yes that is the nature of thunderstorms, they can be hit and miss. Some areas get them while other's miss them.
