Wednesday’s national forecast

A series of fronts move over the country today in a westerly airflow, showers will mainly be confined to western areas with eastern regions remaining fairly dry and sunny.

Auckland & Northland
Cloudy with the odd shower developing in the morning, expect dry spells at times. Showers more persistent for a time in the afternoon then easing in the evening as winds change westerly.
Highs: 15-16

Bay Of Plenty
Becoming cloudy in the morning with light northwesterlies, showers from midday then easing at night.
High: 16

Central North Island & Waikato
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower developing in the morning, light winds from the northwest. Showers ease at night as winds tend more westerly. Showers about the Central North Island will possibly clear at night.
Highs: 12-14

Eastern North Island
Sunny with some increasing high cloud, a few spots of rain possible about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne in the evening. Light winds tend northerly or northwest.
Highs: 16-17

Western North Island
Mostly cloudy with north to northwest winds. Early morning rain eases to the odd shower at times, showers clear at night.
High: 14

Wellington
Morning rain clears then expect cloudy spells with the odd sunny break at times. Cloud decreasing more at night. Winds gusty from the north.
High: 13

Nelson
Sunny spells and some cloud with light west to northwest winds.
Highs: 13-14

Marlborough
Mostly sunny with some cloud at times, brisk northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-15

Canterbury
Mostly sunny with a few wiffs of high cloud about, light winds tend northwesterly in the afternoon. Winds may be a little breezy at times for some inland areas from afternoon.
Highs: 14-15

West Coast
Showers with north to northwesterly winds, showers ease at night as winds tend more westerly or maybe even southwest.
Highs: 12-13

Coastal Otago
Mostly sunny with light winds and some high cloud at times, in the evening gusty westerlies develop with some cloud and the risk of a shower.
Highs: 12-13

Southland & Central Otago
Sunny spells and some high cloud with northwesterly winds building, late afternoon winds change breezy westerly with showers.
High: 9-11
