Wednesday’s national forecast

Settled conditions prevail over much of the country again today while an anticyclone lies to the east of New Zealand spreading a ridge over both the North and South Island. Easterlies about and north of Auckland bring some cloud and even the low risk of a morning shower.

Upper North Island

Cloudy and sunny areas with easterly breezes, chance of a light shower mainly this morning about the Coromandel and north of Auckland. Light winds about the Waikato with mostly sunny skies although there will be some cloud about. Cloudy to start in Gisborne however sunny breaks then developing, northeasterly breezes.

Lower North Island

Mostly sunny weather with afternoon sea breezes, light winds inland. Some high cloud developing in the west and about Wellington after midday. Northerlies in Wellington a little breezy.
HIGHS: 22-25

Upper South Island

Mostly sunny weather with light northerlies in Nelson, sunny in Marlborough too however northerlies a little breezy. Mostly sunny in Canterbury with southerly breezes from morning which ease in the evening. Mostly sunny on the West Coast with light west to southwest winds. In all parts of the upper South Island wisps of high cloud develop from midday.

Lower South Island

Sunny skies for most although expect some high cloud at times particularly in northern parts of Otago. Southerly breezes near the coast in Otago tend northeast in the afternoon, west to northwest winds elsewhere. Cloudy about Fiordland with northerlies building in the evening.
HIGHS: 20-24, 28 inland

Warmest – Central Otago

Windiest – Easterlies about eastern areas north of Auckland will be fairly breezy. Northerlies about Wellington will be fairly brisk at times too.

Sunniest – Central Otago and the Central North Island

Wettest – Eastern Coromandel, Great Barrier Island and eastern Northland may receive a morning shower.
