Wednesday’s national forecast

A front moves over the upper South Island this morning then over the North Island this afternoon, most regions can expect rain or showers for a time.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly cloudy, a few afternoon showers then clearing late afternoon with some sun breaking through as northwest winds change southwest. Showers not clearing Bay Of Plenty till in the evening.
Highs: 17-19
 
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, northerly winds freshen. Some rain moves through in the afternoon then easing back to showers with a west to southwest change, showers clear evening.
Highs: 16-17
 
Eastern North Island
Plenty of high cloud, clearing late afternoon or evening. A few showers or spots of rain may pass through the Wairarapa in the afternoon and further north in the evening. Breezy northerlies tend more northwest in the afternoon.

Wellington
Rain, clearing around midday, some late sun. Strong north to northwest winds change southerly in the afternoon.
High: 16
 
Marlborough & Nelson
Plenty of high cloud, rain develops about Nelson in the morning then Marlborough by midday, chance of a heavy fall. North to northwesterly winds change southwest in the afternoon with rain then clearing and some sun breaking through.
Highs: 18-20
 
Canterbury
Some high cloud then a southwest change develops in the morning bringing showers which clear in the evening.
Highs: 14-15
 
West Coast
Morning heavy rain eases to showers as northerly winds change southwest, sunny spells break through after midday.
Highs: 13-15
 
Southland & Otago
A few showers, mainly early morning and again in the afternoon. Showers in the afternoon may be heavy in a few isolated spots. Sunny spells otherwise with west to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 12-15
