Weather Video: Cold southwesterlies today then becoming settled, although only briefly

Cold, strong southwesterlies spread over New Zealand today bringing rain or showers to many regions. Then a ridge brings some settled weather on Thursday. However, a few pesky showers are still to clear the North Island during the day.

Friday sees the prompt return of further frontal conditions as one marches northwards over the country during the day, northwesterlies preceding this front bring warm conditions in the east.

A west to southwesterly airflow on Saturday brings patchy showers to the west of both islands. Meanwhile, it’s mainly dry in the east, although, a southerly flick moves through Southland, Otago, and then Canterbury during the afternoon and evening bringing a few showers.
