A ridge loses it’s grip over New Zealand today as a frontal system moves in from the west, the front makes landfall for western parts of the country during the afternoon and evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Increasing cloud, some rain in the evening then easing overnight. Northwesterly winds change westerly overnight.
Highs: 16-18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny spells, cloud increases from late morning about Taranaki and in the evening elsewhere. Some rain moves in to Taranaki during the evening then elsewhere overnight. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 13-16

Eastern North Island
Any early cloud clears then mainly sunny, some high cloud from evening then overnight spots of rain. Light northeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-17

Wellington
Mostly cloudy, brief rain overnight. Increasing north to northwesterly winds.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson
Morning sun for Nelson then cloud increases from afternoon, some brief rain later in the evening / overnight. Mostly sunny about Marlborough with high cloud increasing from afternoon, overnight spots of rain possible. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-17

Canterbury
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, in the evening a light southwest change brings the chance of a shower.
Highs: 13-14

West Coast
Mostly cloudy, rain develops about South Westland this morning then moving into North Westland late afternoon / evening. Rain clears overnight as northeasterly winds change southeast.
Highs: 12-14

Southland & Otago
Scattered patchy rain develops during the morning about Southland, easing in the evening. Otago sees sunny areas and thickening high cloud, a few light showers in the evening. Light northerlies tend southerly in the evening.
Highs: 10-12
