A southwesterly airflow lies over the North Island today while southwesterlies tend northwest this afternoon over the South Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Cloudy areas and occasional sun, chance of a shower or two. The Bay Of Plenty will be mainly sunny with mostly dry weather. Breezy west to southwesterly winds.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower possible, west to southwesterly winds develop by midday.
Highs: 18
 
Eastern North Island
Sunny spells with southerly winds, chance of a shower late afternoon / evening especially about the Wairarapa. Winds tend east to northeast later in the day.
Highs: 19-20
 
Wellington
Any morning showers clear, mostly cloudy with southerlies tending northerly by late morning.
High: 17
 
Marlborough & Nelson
Chance of an early shower then clearing, plenty of thick high cloud with afternoon north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 20-21
 
Canterbury
Mostly sunny with increasing high cloud, chance spots of rain from late afternoon / evening. East to northeast winds freshen from afternoon near the coast, lighter winds inland.

West Coast
Mostly cloudy, chance of a light shower at times. Rain moves into South Westland in the evening then North Westland overnight. Westerly winds.

Southland & Otago
High cloud, a few early spots of rain possible. Rain more likely later in the evening or overnight. North to northwesterly winds.
