Tuesday’s national forecast

A southerly airflow spreads over the South Island today bringing cool weather and rain spreading northwards along the east coast of the South Island, some rain affecting parts of the West Coast too. The North Island is quite cloudy also, a few showers about especially in the west.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy areas and some sun with west to northwest winds, a few showers late afternoon / evening about the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty. Northland sees mostly sunny weather all day with sea breezes.
Highs: 23-27
 
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower possible during the day, more so about Taranaki and the Central North Island otherwise fairly dry. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 21-23
 
Eastern North Island
Sunny areas and some high cloud, low risk of an isolated shower late afternoon / evening mainly about the ranges otherwise dry. Light winds for most and afternoon sea breezes near the coast about Hawkes Bay.
Highs: 24-25
 
Wellington
Areas of cloud with north to northwesterly winds, chance of an evening shower as winds tend southerly.
High: 22
 
Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny areas with light winds, late afternoon or evening a few showers move in as southerly winds start to freshen.
Highs: 23-26
 
Canterbury
Winds change southerly early on bringing cloudy skies and drizzle, then turning to rain in the afternoon.
High: 20
 
West Coast
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower and northwesterly winds, some rain for a time in the evening as winds change southeast.
High: 19
 
Southland & Otago
Cloudy and cold with southerly winds, patchy rain or drizzle clears in the evening about Southland then overnight for Otago.
Highs: 13-16
