Tuesday’s national forecast

A front moves over the South Island this morning then onto the lower North Island later this afternoon or evening. A cooler day in store for the likes of Otago and Canterbury however Marlborough still sees some residual northwesterly conditions this morning before the southerly arrives.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny areas for most with the Bay Of Plenty likely to be mainly sunny all day. Winds from the west or southwest winds, becoming breezy this afternoon. A few showers later this evening or overnight.
Highs: 23-27

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy or becoming mostly cloudy this morning, winds breezy from the west. Chance of a light shower or two this morning however becoming more likely as the afternoon moves along, winds changing southerly by evening. The Central North Island especially in the northeast may see sunny areas with skies not clouding up till evening.

Eastern North Island

A mainly sunny day with light winds tending northwest, a change to southwesterlies this evening brings increasing cloud and the odd late shower.
Highs: 28-30

Wellington

Cloudy or becoming cloudy this morning with brisk northwesterly winds, a few showers move in this afternoon then clear in the evening by which point winds will have changed southerly.
High: 20

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny areas and some increasing high cloud, northwesterly winds. A change to southerlies this afternoon brings cloud and the odd patchy shower which clears in the evening.
Highs: 22-27

Canterbury

Some early rain then the odd drizzle patch across the day, dry areas about also. There may be a period of showers about some parts of South Canterbury from afternoon then clearing evening. Winds from the south, dying away in the evening.
Highs: 18-19

West Coast

Rain clears this morning then sunny areas develop this afternoon, southwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-18

Southland & Otago

Cloudy areas with the odd patchy shower about Southland, mainly in the morning but the odd one may continue till evening. Any early showers clear Otago then sunny areas increase. Brisk west to southwest winds.
Highs: 13-17
