A southwesterly airflow lies over the country today, most regions will experience fairly cool temperatures especially over the South Island. Showers for most regions today.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Showers, possibly heavy with thunderstorms this morning then easing. Showers may clear from the Bay Of Plenty altogether this afternoon although the risk remains of the odd shower moving in from the west. Eastern Northland could also see mostly sunny weather today but the risk of a shower now and then is possible. Gusty westerly winds for all.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Showers, heavy at times mainly this morning then easing. Sunny areas this afternoon for some. Gusty west to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-17

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with gusty northwesterly winds, winds tend more west to southwest this afternoon with some developing cloud and the chance of a shower or two.
High: 19-21

Wellington

Showers possibly heavy this morning then easing, clearing overnight. Southerly winds.
High: 12

Marlborough & Nelson

Showers for much of today with southerly quarter winds. Nelson sees long dry spells developing from midday with sun breaking through.
Highs: 13-17

Canterbury

Rain eases to showers this morning which clear later this evening or overnight, southwesterly winds.
Highs: 12-13

West Coast

Rain this morning easing to the odd shower and developing sunny spells, southwesterly winds.
High: 14

Southland & Otago

Occasional showers with gusty cool southwesterly winds, showers clear this evening or in the case of coastal Otago perhaps overnight.
Highs: 10-11
