Tuesday’s national forecast

Cold southwesterlies continue over the country today with a high west of New Zealand and a low to the east. Temperatures farily low across New Zealand with showers affecting eastern regions of both islands and the lower South Island mostly.

Northland
Sunny spells with breezy southwesterly winds, the odd shower at times especially first thing in the morning.

Auckland

Sunny spells with brisk southwesterlies, the odd brief shower at
times.
Highs: 12-13

Bay Of Plenty

Sunny with breezy to brisk southwesterlies.
High: 11

Waikato & Central North Island

Mostly sunny with breezy southwesterly winds. About southern parts of the
Central North Island expect showers from afternoon, some snow to 400m at first,
lifting to 500m at night.
Highs: 8-10

Eastern North Island

Showers about the Wairarapa with sunny spells further north, breezy cold
southwesterly winds. A few showers pushing into Hawkes Bay and Gisborne during
the afternoon however remaining quite coastal. Snow flurries to 300m in the
ranges about Wairarapa then lifting above 700m at night. Snow making its way
down to 400m further north in the afternoon then lifting to 800m
overnight.

Taranaki

Mostly sunny with cold southerly winds.
Highs: 10-11

Western North Island

A few morning showers then afternoon rain, easing back to showers again in
the evening. Showers in the morning may contain hail at times. Cold
southwesterly winds.
High: 8

Wellington

Cloudy with showers. Morning showers may be heavy with some hail, snow
flurries to 300m in the hills at first lifting to 500m at night. Strong cold
southerlies.
High: 8

Nelson

Sunny with southwesterly winds.
Highs: 10-11

Marlborough

Sunny spells with southwesterly winds.
High: 10

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy nearer the coast with occasional showers, snow flurries to
200m in the morning then lifting to 500m in the evening. Hail at times in the
morning then easing. Showers mostly coastal with a few penetrating a little
further inland at times, mainly into North Canterbury. Inland parts of Mid
Canterbury and especially South Canterbury will likely see many sunny areas.

West Coast

Sunny with southerly winds.
Highs: 9-10

Coastal Otago

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, a few snow flurries to 200m in the
morning then lifting above 500m in the afternoon. Southwesterlies.
High: 9

Central Otago

Periods of cloud with the odd shower, a few snow flurries at first to low
levels then lifting above 600m in the afternoon. Chilly southwesterly
winds.
Highs: 5-7

Southland

Occasional showers with west to southwest winds, there may be some small
hail early in the morning then easing away. Snow flurries to 300m at first then
lifting above 600m in the afternoon.
High: 9
