Thursday’s national forecast

An anticyclone covers much of New Zealand today with its centre just east of the South Island. Conditions are fairly settled although eastern parts of the North Island see cloudy areas and the odd shower.

Auckland & Northland
Mostly sunny with light winds and afternoon sea breezes.
Highs: 20-21

Central North Island, Bay Of Plenty, Waikato
Sunny about the Bay Of Plenty, mostly sunny elsewhere too although cloud may be more persistent about eastern parts of the Central North Island. Southeasterly breezes die out in the evening.
Highs: 19-22

Eastern North Island
Cloudy spells with south to southeasterly breezes, the odd shower or drizzle patch at times mainly about the ranges of Hawkes Bay and Gisborne then clearing afternoon. A few sunny spells may become more frequent during the afternoon also.
Highs: 17-19

Western North Island
Mostly sunny with south to southeasterly breezes easing later in the evening.
Highs: 19-20

Wellington
Sunny spells, long in the afternoon. Southeasterly breezes ease away in the evening tending northerly overnight.
Highs: 16-17

Nelson
Mostly sunny with light winds then northerly breezes in the afternoon.
Highs: 17-18

Marlborough
Mostly sunny with light winds, afternoon easterly breezes.
Highs: 17-18

Canterbury
Sunny spells with east to northeast breezes, cloud may be thicker morning and night. Some high cloud in the evening.
Highs: 16-17

West Coast
Sunny spells with light westerly breezes, high cloud increases during the day also.
Highs: 17-18

Coastal Otago
Sunny spells with east to northeast breezes, high cloud develops later in the evening.
Highs: 16-17

Central Otago
Sunny with some cloud about, high cloud thickens in the evening. Light winds.
Highs: 22-25

Southland
Sunny spells with light winds tending southerly around midday, evening high cloud.
High: 18
