Thursday’s national forecast

A westerly airflow still continues over the country today. The strongest winds will mainly be about Wellington, gusty from the north. Dry warm conditions prevail out east, rain for the west of the South Island, mainly dry about the west of the North Island although there may be the odd shower at times south of about Taranaki.

Central North Island, Waikato, Auckland & Northland
Sunny spells and some cloud with westerly breezes, easing in the evening and tending light northerly at night. Cloud will be a little more fresquent about the Central North Island with the odd shower at times.

Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny with a few clouds about, westerly breezes easing in the evening.
Highs: 17-18

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with brisk westerly winds, easing in the evening.
Highs: 17-18

Western North Island
Breezy west to northwest winds with cloudy periods and the odd shower at times, long dry spells too with a few sunny breaks even possible.
Highs: 14-15

Wellington
Sunny spells and some cloud with brisk north to northwest winds
Highs: 14-15

Nelson
Mostly sunny with west to northwest breezes.
High: 16

Marlborough
Sunny with northwest winds, warm temperatures.
Highs: 18-19

Canterbury
Mostly sunny with a few whiffs of high cloud at times, high cloud increases a little from evening. Light winds tend northeasterly in the afternoon.
High: 17-18

West Coast
Periods of rain with northerly breezes.
Highs: 13-14

Coastal Otago
Sunny with light northeasterlies, some high cloud develops from late afternoon and thickens in the evening. A few spots of rain possible overnight.
High: 14

Central Otago
Sunny with some high cloud, a few early spots of rain are possible in the morning. In the evening cloud thickens and spots of rain move in again overnight.
Highs: 12

Southland
Early morning showers clear then sunny spells develop, northerly breezes. Cloud thickens up again from evening then rain moves in overnight.
Highs: 13-14
