Thursday’s national forecast

A front pushes up the western side of New Zealand today, reaching the North Island this afternoon meanwhile a low sits to the east of the South Island directing in a southerly change.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Areas of cloud and sunny spells, mainly morning. A few showers moving into the Waiakato in the afternoon then clearing in the evening. Auckland and the Bay Of Plenty is looking mainly dry, there may be a shower late afternoon / evening. Northland is even drier with more frequent sunny areas. Breezy westerlies.
Highs: 17-20

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, clearing in the evening. Gusty west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-17

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny, low risk of an isolated shower about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne late afternoon / evening. Breezy west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 20-22

Wellington

Sunny spells, a few evening showers possible as gusty northwesterly winds change southerly.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny with west to northwesterly winds, there may be a southwest change about Marlborough in the evening which could bring a shower to southern coastal parts of the region.
Highs: 18-20

Canterbury

Mostly sunny, showers move into South Canterbury early afternoon then reaching North Canterbury late afternoon as northwesterly winds change southerly. Showers may be heavy at times with hail / thunderstorms then clearing overnight.
High: 20

West Coast

Rain eases to showers late morning then clearing in the evening, westerlies tend southwest around midday.
High: 14

Southland & Otago

Occasional showers, more so in the afternoon then clearing in the evening. Sunny spells breaking through at times, northwesterly winds change gusty west to southwesterly late morning.
Highs: 12-16
