Taranaki Flood fears subside

Fears of flooding have eased in North Taranaki’s Awakino Gorge.

Flood alerts were issued last night when the Awakino River reached flow rates of more than two metres, after heavy rain in the area.

Overnight, river levels have been steadily dropping and roading authorities say there is no risk of flooding today.

The low that brought all the rain is now well east of the country and clearing skies are following in behind it.

Apart from a few brief, isolated, showers conditions over Taranaki will be mainly dry for the rest of today and tomorrow.
