Sunday’s national forecast

Upper North Island

Cloudy areas Auckland northwards with southwesterly winds, the odd brief shower possible at times too. In the evening cloud breaks away as winds ease. Mostly sunny for the Waikato, Bay Of Plenty and Central North Island with light winds.

Lower North Island

Cloudy areas on the east coast with southwesterly winds, the odd shower at times too then clearing during the afternoon. Cloud breaks away in the evening. Cloudy areas in the west with the chance of a light shower now and then, cloud breaking up in the afternoon and clearing by evening, light winds. Wellington sees morning cloud break to a mostly sunny afternoon.

Upper South Island

Any early cloud clears the Nelson / Marlborough area then becoming mostly sunny, light winds. Cloud breaks away from Canterbury in the afternoon then becoming mostly sunny, light winds for most with northeasterlies along the coast for a time this afternoon. North Westland sees mostly sunny weather then some cloud increases by evening, westerly winds.

Lower South Island

Cloudy areas about Southland and Fiordland with the odd shower possible, winds gusty from the west. Sunny areas and some cloud for Otago, high cloud increases in the afternoon. A mostly sunny start to South Westland then some cloud moves in during the afternoon as westerlies pick up, chance of a light shower or two by evening.
