Sunday’s national forecast

Upper North Island

Mostly cloudy with west to northwesterly winds building during the day, chance of the odd light shower afternoon onwards.

Lower North Island

Mostly cloudy in the west and about Wellington, west to northwesterly winds build with gales possible for Wellington evening onwards. Sunnier and drier along the east coast however expect plenty of high cloud.

Upper South Island

High cloud in the east with gusty northwesterly winds strong at times especially inland. Late afternoon or evening a westerly change moves through bringing some brief rain. Showers on the West Coast turning to rain in the afternoon, building northwesterly winds then changing to the west late afternoon with rain easing to showers.

Lower South Island

Rain this morning on the West Coast easing to showers by midday as a westerly change moves through. Sunny areas and high cloud first thing this morning in the east, gusty northwest winds. Mid to late morning a westerly change moves through bringing a brief period of rain.

How low do you see the snow getting in the deep south in southland

Snow to 200m looks fairly possible Monday afternoon onwards, chance of a few flakes to 100m in the evening and overnight but conditions start to ease up a little around then. Mainly things will be above 200m.
