A front caught in a southwesterly airflow moves over the upper South Island this evening then onto the lower North Island overnight.

Bay Of Islands
Clear spells and a few clouds, westerly winds.

Auckland & Northland

Cloudy areas with westerly breezes. Cooler temperatures about inland parts
of Northland.
Tonight’s Lows: 13-17

Central North Island, Lake Taupo,
Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy areas with westerly winds, the odd light shower is possible about
western parts of the Waikato and Central North Island overnight. About the Bay
Of Plenty cloud will break up a little overnight with clearer skies developing
for a time.

Eastern North Island

High cloud increasing about the Wairarapa, a few spots of rain possible
overnight with strong northwesterlies. Further north expect mainly clear skies
with northwesterly winds, some high cloud possible about Hawkes Bay by dawn
tomorrow.
Tonight’s Lows: 15-17

Western North Island

Cloudy areas with brisk west to northwest winds, a few showers move through
overnight, showers still about Taranaki by dawn and more likely to clear there
by midday tomorrow.

Wellington

Strong northerly winds with mostly cloudy skies, a chance of gale force
winds at times from this evening. A few brief spells of rain move through
overnight then clearing.

Nelson & Kaiteriteri

Clear spells initially this evening however cloud starts to increase with
gusty west to northwest winds, later this evening a few showers spread from the
west then clear around midnight.

Marlborough

High cloud with brisk to strong northwesterly winds, a spot of rain
possible spreading from the west later this evening otherwise mainly dry.

Canterbury

Rain or showers about South and Mid Canterbury clear this evening, a few
brief showers move into North Canterbury this evening but may not go any further
north then about Christchurch as a southwest change moves through. Mainly clear
skies overnight for all with west to southwest breezes.

West Coast

Showers with westerly breezes, rain about Buller eases this evening to
showers with northwesterly winds changing westerly.
Tonight’s Lows: 11-13

Coastal Otago

The odd heavy shower possible this evening then clearing, light winds.
Around midnight gusty west to southwest winds develop bringing some cloud and
the odd shower at times, mainly south of about Dunedin. Showers could contain
small hail towards dawn also.
Tonight’s Low: 8

Central Otago

The odd shower with breezy westerly winds, chance of some small hail
towards dawn tomorrow morning mainly in the south and east.
Tonight’s Lows: 7-8

Southland

Showers, some squally overnight with small hail. Brisk to strong
westerlies.
Tonight’s Low: 7
