Saturday’s weather outlook

A ridge lies over the North Island today bringing mainly settled conditions while a front over the South Island brings cloud for many and showers / drizzle for a few regions mainly this morning.

So for the North Island from Northland down through to the Bay Of Plenty and Central North Island, expect mostly sunny weather today with light winds this morning then afternoon sea breezes for coastal areas. Taranaki down through to Kapiti in the west sees areas of cloud at times with west to northwest breezes, chance of a morning shower then clearing. Wellington is fairly cloudy this morning with a few showers or drizzle patches which clear, some sun breaks through this afternoon. Mainly sunny along the east coast with afternoon sea breezes.

For the South Island we have mostly cloudy skies for much of the east coast, patchy rain or drizzle this morning in Canterbury easing this afternoon and perhaps mostly clearing up for some. Winds from the east. Parts of Nelson and Marlborough see a few areas of sun at times and this could result in an isolated shower or two late afternoon / evening. Fairly cloudy along the West Coast north of about Hokitika with the odd light shower, easing this afternoon and mostly clearing but the odd light shower could remain for a few. Moving into Fiordland skies are sunnier.

Inland Otago and parts of inland Southland may see morning cloud break to a few sunny areas, winds from the southwest. Southland nearer the coast has areas of cloud and southwest breezes.
