An anticyclone lies over much of the North Island today meanwhile expect northwesterlies for the South Island. A front moves onto the lower South Island around midday.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny, some cloud at times especially along western coastal areas. Light west to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A mix of sun and cloud with west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 11-15

Eastern North Island
Sunny with northwesterly winds, afternoon east to northeast breezes about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.
Highs: 15-18

Wellington
Increasing cloud with breezy north to northwesterly winds.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny with north to northwesterly winds, breezy at times from afternoon.
Highs: 16-20

Canterbury
Mostly sunny with some late high cloud, north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 18-20

West Coast
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, rain moves into Fiordland in the morning with heavy falls. Northerly winds.
Highs: 12-14

Southland & Otago
Thickening high cloud, some scattered rain develops around midday for Southland as northwesterly winds tend westerly. Rain becoming more persistent later on. Otago has a mainly dry day with spots of rain in the evening.
Highs: 14-18
