Saturday’s national forecast

A ridge hangs over the North Island bringing mainly settled weather today while a northwesterly airflow brings showers or rain for the west of the South Island and mainly dry weather in the east.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny with light winds. A chance of a few fog or mist patches morning and night, mainly for inland areas. Northland has a mainly sunny morning then some cloud drifts in from the east during the afternoon bringing the risk of a light shower or two.
Highs: 15-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny with a touch of high cloud from afternoon, Kapiti has a cloudy day however with the risk of a light shower or two. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 10-14

Eastern North Island
Morning cloud clears Gisborne otherwise expect sunny weather Hawkes Bay northwards with light winds. Northwesterlies pick up from afternoon about the Wairarapa however and some high cloud moves in there also.
Highs: 14-16

Wellington
Cloudy areas with freshening north to northwesterly winds.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny with increasing high cloud, northwesterly winds.
Highs: 13-15

Canterbury
Sunny areas and some high cloud, north to northwesterly winds for most however a light northeast breeze is possible about the coast.
Highs: 12-14

West Coast
Cloudy with the odd light shower, rain moves into Fiordland from midday with heavy falls then slowly pushing northwards. By the times rain reaches North Westland in the evening rain will have eased. Freshening northerlies.
Highs: 10-13

Southland & Otago
Plenty of high cloud, a few spots of rain move through in the afternoon for Southland, clearing early evening. Spots of rain not affecting Otago till evening. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 10-14
