Rain slides down North Island, dry over Canterbury...for now

Filed in:

Heavy rain is sliding down the North Island today with the heaviest rain falling across Bay of Plenty.

Eastern Northland, eastern Auckland, eastern Waikato and Coromandel have also seen rain moving down.

The rain may be heavy enough to cause some minor surface flooding and WeatherWatch.co.nz advises drivers to be aware of large puddles across the open highways, particularly in Bay of Plenty.

Dry weather remains over Canterbury but it may not last all day.  Already showers are moving into the Kaikoura Coast and it's possible that showers or patchy rain will move into Christchurch tonight.

WeatherWatch.co.nz will keep you posted.
