Your Photos: (x14): Auckland's Thursday thunderstorms produce seriously stormy clouds

There were sunny spells Thursday morning, intense downpours at lunchtime and by the end of the day Aucklanders and other parts of the Upper North Island were viewing some seriously stormy looking clouds.

We've had so many photos sent in to us on via our Twitter account

Here's some of the best we received by 5:30pm Thursday

Storm clouds

Hello, if people are interested then visit New Cloud Classification released by World Meteorological Organisation.I have witnessed a few of the cloud formations on this chart over the last year. There is one type of homogenitus cloud which gets its own name, homomutatus.[2] When persistent contrails spread out over time to cover a significant portion of the sky (in so doing, gaining the appearance of a naturally occurring cloud formation), the term "homomutatus" replaces the term "homogenitus"( from Wikipedia). Has anyone else seen the contrails like Homogenitus on the chart? that expand and create a fine silvery layer over the course of the day as here in South Canterbury. I am in my late 60s and am baffled by these weird clouds and their presence around and during storm events. Thanks for a good site that may help my curiousity. cheers Bren cheers Brendon Climate change may be of some influence otherwise I am open to other peoples views. Hope most are keeping warm and safe and neighbours OK. .
