Monday’s national forecast

A low slowly churns over New Zealand during the day today bringing some unsettled weather, the best spots to be will be the east coast of the North Island and Fiordland.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Showers, some may be heavy especially this afternoon. Sunny spells at times. Northwesterly winds freshen.
Highs: 14-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Showers, some may be heavy at times with a risk of lightning in the west. A few snow flurries to 800m from afternoon. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 10-15

Eastern North Island
Any morning cloud clears then mainly sunny, a few showers push over from the west late afternoon / evening. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-18

Wellington
A few showers, possibly heavy. Northerlies change southerly in the evening.
High: 12

Marlborough & Nelson
Any early rain clears then some sun is possible, further rain developing in the afternoon before clearing overnight. Light winds.
Highs: 12-13

Canterbury
Rain with heavy falls possible, easing later in the day then clearing overnight. Snow (possibly heavy) to 500m, 400m about South Canterbury. Cold Southerly winds.
High: 8

West Coast
Early rain eases to showers then clearing during the afternoon as south to southeasterly winds freshen. South Westland sees morning cloud break to sunny spells.
Highs: 11-13

Southland & Otago
Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells. Coastal Otago has mainly cloudy skies with the odd light shower, perhaps a few light snow flurries to 300m. Light east to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 7-8
