A northwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, meanwhile a front moves onto the lower South Island late afternoon slowly moving northwards during the evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny spells for most, mainly sunny about the Bay Of Plenty. Light winds tending westerly this afternoon.

Highs: 15-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Areas of cloud, occasional sun. Northwesterly winds.

Highs: 13-14

Eastern North Island

Sunny with light winds, tending east to northeast this afternoon about Hawkes Bay.

Highs: 16-19

Wellington

Becoming mostly cloudy this morning, northwesterly winds strengthen.

High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny with some late high cloud. North to northwesterly winds, breezy at times this afternoon about Marlborough.

Highs: 15-19

Canterbury

Mostly sunny with some developing high cloud, north to northwesterly winds.

High: 18

West Coast

Increasing cloud, rain moves into South Westland this afternoon pushing northwards in the evening. Northerly winds.

Highs: 12-13

Southland & Otago

Cloudy with some rain developing this afternoon about Southland, more towards evening about Otago. Northwesterlies gradually change southwest.
