Monday’s national forecast

A front moves northwards over the South Island this morning, then onto the lower North Island this afternoon before moving further north in the evening. Northerly winds ahead of this front are generally changing to southwest in behind. Areas of rain or showers today, mostly in the west with only brief falls in the east.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower later in the evening. Northeasterly winds tend more northerly this afternoon.
Highs: 14-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy, perhaps a shower about Taranaki, then widespread rain moves in this afternoon before clearing in the evening. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 12-15

Eastern North Island

Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, with a few spots of rain later in the evening. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 17

Wellington

Cloudy with some rain developing late morning then clearing late afternoon, breezy northerly winds.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson

Areas of rain, clearing in the afternoon then becoming mostly sunny. Breezy north to northwesterly winds ease later in the day.
Highs: 14-15

Canterbury

Any early spots of rain clear, then high cloud breaks to a mainly sunny day. Northerly winds tend northwest, perhaps briefly changing southerly for a time in the afternoon near the coast.
High: 18

West Coast

Morning heavy rain eases to a few showers which clear in the afternoon, northeasterlies change west to southwest.
High: 13

Southland & Otago

Mostly sunny, however, a few evening showers pass through Southland and possibly coastal Otago, with west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 11-16
