An anticyclone brings mainly settled conditions to New Zealand today and on Thursday however it may become unstable in the afternoon for the upper North Island. A low starts to descend from the tropics north of the country on Friday meanwhile most of both islands sit under a ridge of high pressure.

Wednesday

Isolated showers late afternoon / evening about the upper North Island (mainly inland), a chance one or two may become heavy with the risk of thunderstorms.

Yellow - Temperatures approaching the mid twenties about the inner lower South Island in the afternoon.

Thursday

Blue - Heavy showers with possible thunderstorms developing in the afternoon for the upper North Island, easing later in the evening.

Yellow - Afternoon high's reach into the mid twenties for the lower South Island.

Friday

High's in the mid twenties for the upper South Island and many parts of the North Island south of Auckland on Friday. Overnight southeasterly winds become strong from the incoming low to the north.
