An anticyclone brings mainly settled conditions to New Zealand on Wednesday however conditions may become unstable in the afternoon for the upper North Island.

Sunny spells and some cloud for the upper North Island, isolated showers afternoon / evening, some may become heavy with thunderstorms then clearing later on. Light northeasterly winds for most although a sea breeze may develop along the western coastline for a time in the afternoon.

Mostly sunny with light winds for the lower western North Island, afternoon sea breezes. A mix of sun and cloud along the east coast with east to northeasterly winds. Skies may become mainly clear near the coast in the afternoon however about the ranges conditions will cloudy up before breaking away overnight. Mostly sunny for Wellington with light winds.

Mostly sunny for Nelson and Marlborough with east to northeasterly winds, afternoon northerlies for Nelson. Sunny in Canterbury with east to northeasterly winds, picking up a little in the afternoon.

Mostly sunny after any morning cloud breaks away along the West Coast, light west to southwesterly winds. Any morning cloud clears for Southland and Otago then mostly sunny with light winds, afternoon sea breezes. Low risk of an isolated shower late afternoon / evening for inland parts of the South Island mainly about hills and ranges.

Blue - Heavy form of precipitation - or - low temperatures, typically below 1 to 2 degrees celsius.
White - Snow
Purple - Strong winds.
Yellow - Temperatures around the mid 20 degree mark or over.
