InfoGraphic: The Big Picture for Tuesday / Wednesday

A ridge hangs over New Zealand on Tuesday then a northerly quarter airflow builds on Wednesday ahead of a deep low pressure system dropping into the Tasman Sea out of the tropics.

A mainly settled day on Tuesday with hot temperatures, especially in the east. Wednesday starts to see increasing northeasterlies about the far north, northwesterlies build through Cook Strait and about the far south of the South Island. Later in the evening or overnight some heavy rain moves onto the lower / western South Island.
