Hot humid downpours back in the forecast (+Maps)

Filed in:

It's a mostly dry weekend across New Zealand but a few downpours will develop on Sunday and increase into the start of next week as air from the sub-tropics returns.

A fairly weak area of low pressure to the north west will drag down muggy conditions (humid + warmth) over the country. It means overnight lows may not drop below 22 degrees for some in the upper North Island, with high humidity.

During the day this humidity plus warmth will help create afternoon downpours, some with thunderstorms.

These downpours and thunderstorms are expected inland mostly around the North Island but some South Island areas too, until Tuesday or Wednesday.

Sunday will start out mostly dry but isolated downpours do develop later, increasing more on Monday.
