A weak area of low pressure lies over the North Island today while a ridge sits over the South Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly cloudy in the morning with a few patchy showers, perhaps an isolated heavy fall from Auckland through to Gisborne, light west to northwesterly winds. Some sun may break through in the afternoon. Northland is mainly dry then showers develop in the afternoon before clearing in the evening. There may be an isolated heavy fall (perhaps even a thunderstorm) late afternoon / evening for Northland, Waikato and inland Bay Of Plenty then easing later on

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Early morning rain clears then sunny spells develop, low risk of an isolated shower late afternoon / evening (mainly inland). Light winds tending onshore in the afternoon.
Highs: 16-20

Eastern North Island
Sunny spells. An isolated shower or two may spring up about the ranges in the afternoon then clearing in the evening. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 15-17

Wellington
A mix of sun and cloud with southeasterly winds developing in the morning, risk of a shower otherwise mainly dry.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson
A mix of sun and cloud with east to southeasterly winds about Marlborough, north to northeasterly winds for Nelson. Low risk of an isolated shower late afternoon / evening, mainly inland.
Highs: 16-19

Canterbury
Chance of a morning drizzle patch, cloud breaking to some sun late in the day. East to Nor’East winds.
Highs: 13-14

West Coast
Sunny with light winds, afternoon sea breezes.
Highs: 16-21

Southland & Otago
Morning cloud breaks to a mostly sunny afternoon about Southland and inland Otago. Coastal Otago sees cloudy areas, perhaps some sun at times. Light winds tending onshore in the afternoon.
Highs: 14-19
