A ridge weakens over the North Island this afternoon while a front moves northwards over the South Island during the day.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny spells and increasing cloud with the chance of a shower from afternoon. Cloud thickens in the evening then a greater risk of showers overnight. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 15-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Sunny spells and increasing cloud, rain moves into Taranaki late afternoon, then elsewhere in the evening. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 12-16

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with some high cloud from afternoon, then spots of rain develop overnight for the Wairarapa. North to northeasterly winds, increasing later in the day.
Highs: 16-17

Wellington

Increasing cloud with the odd shower possible from midday, then evening rain. Breezy north to northwesterly winds.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny areas and increasing high cloud about Marlborough, with a few evening spots of rain. Nelson sees cloudy skies from morning, then some rain there from afternoon. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 12-14

Canterbury

Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, then evening spots of rain. Northerly winds.
High: 14

West Coast

Cloudy with rain about South Westland, pushing northwards during the afternoon / evening. Rain may be heavy at times. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 10-12

Southland & Otago

Thick high cloud with the chance of a spot of rain, otherwise mainly dry, A southwest change mid to late afternoon brings a few showers which clear in the evening. Cloud breaks later in the day.
Highs: 10-12
