A cool Saturday but a warmer Sunday (+4 Maps)

Filed in:

This weekend New Zealand's weather is dominated by a high pressure anchored on the east of the South
Island.

For Saturday onshore easterly winds may bring a few light showers to north eastern areas. The eastern part of the country from Canterbury to Gisborne will also be mostly covered by low clouds.

Daytime temperatures are significantly lower than usual in these areas too, because of cool low-level airflows
from the ocean and the clouds making for lack of sunshine.

This condition will change tomorrow as the dominant wind direction will become northeasterly. It will be
sunny or partly cloudy in most areas, except Hawke’s bay and Gisborne where cloudy weather with possible light showers will still be likely.

Daytime temperatures on Sunday will become close to normal in the east of the country and warmer in the western and southernmost areas.
