Weather Video: High pressure moves in but weekend sub-tropical rain coming

High pressure dominates much of the country today and Thursday. However, sinking air pressure to the north of New Zealand will see rain clouds forming around Northland and later this week Auckland too.

The weekend sees areas of rain in the upper North Island although the bulk may be out at sea; northern areas are likely to be clipped by it.

Another dusting of snow on the South Island mountains this morning has left a few people asking if this is Autumn already - the answer is no, but with a but. While summer heat will continue through the next month or two it is probably safe to say that the South Island has probably peaked with summer heat.

Downpours are dotted across the upper North Island today with some heavier downpours with isolated thunderstorms forecast later today in the Auckland and Northland regions. As of 10am most downpours were around Whangare.
