The humid sub-tropical airflow continues today with more drizzle, patchy rain and cloud. There will be more heavy falls today too, especially around Taranaki and the north west South Island.

A northeasterly airflow lies over the country today, a front within this flow lingers over the North Island

Patchy rain - a chance of an isolated heavy fall. Areas of drizzle at times too and long dry spells. Breezy humid east to northeasterly winds.

A large but fairly weak sub-tropical low will drag down more humid northerlies this weekend and areas of rain - some slow moving heavy falls are in the mix but so too are drizzle patches and dry spells.

The low isn’t very strong so the rain bands will weaken in some areas due to the mountains and ranges getting in the way.

Most regions in the North Island see rain on Saturday, heavy falls still possible for many but there will also be many areas of lighter rain or perhaps even some dry spells.

A mainly sunny day for the South Island on Friday, some high cloud possible in the north and south of the Island.


Sub-tropical low this weekend to dump heavy rain (+5 Maps)

On Friday a low will appear north of New Zealand and move southward, bringing locally heavy rain with strong gusty winds to parts of the North Island. 

The low will move slowly, so rain accumulation in some parts of the northern North Island will markedly increase.
