PLEASE ALSO ADD YOUR REPORT TO FIREBALLS AOTEAROA:
Fireball Aotearoa is a collaboration between scientists at the Universities of Canterbury and Otago, and citizen scientists who operate meteor observation cameras across Aotearoa New Zealand. Their aim is to recover freshly-fallen meteorites following fireball events. Simply go here to do this: https://fireballs.nz/about/

Me and my son saw two comets tonight around 08:00pm the first one bright yellow and orange which fizzled out after 1 min. After watching that we hoped in the car and my son pointed out another one so we hoped out of the car to watch. Orange and lasted longer than the first around 2 mins . I have a video of the second one. We are based in Dinsdale, Hamilton. NZ.

Comets do not cross the sky quickly.
The objects you describe are characteristic of meteors.

Just saw a white streak in the sky. Was there for a few seconds then disappeared. It was heading north over Christchurch today. 7:20 am Tuesday 30th April.

Yeah I saw that too around the same time, it wasn’t fast, but it wasn’t there long either. Tried to take a photo but didn’t look as good on my phone camera as it did in my eyes. But I know it wasn’t a jet, it looked more like a comet in the early morning sky, then it vanished.

2200-2215 approximately tonight April 28 2024 Invercargill South City amazing shooting star like something out of a cartoon! So close and bright heading North – thick white light quickly followed by an explosion of bright light orange purple etc could clearly see a tail and amazing colouration. Extremely close too.

Saw brilliant bright green flash with a long tail – looked like a firework – heading northwest in front of the Alps in Manapouri. Spotted from hillside. 100-200m altitude.

Brilliant bright green meteor falling towards the west, viewed from Lyttelton looking westward towards/behind Governor’s bay.
Bright enough to be very noticeable in the periphery of view out the window with bright port lights to compete with.
